This late fifteenth-century monument within the Lodi Gardens combines a large domed structure with an adjoining mosque and a pillared guesthouse, forming an elegant Sultanate ensemble. The name means great dome, and its heavy hemispherical roof crowns a square chamber whose original purpose, whether tomb or gateway, remains debated. The neighbouring mosque is richly ornamented with carved plaster, painted medallions and Quranic inscriptions across its ceiling. Set among lawns and old trees, it is a favourite of photographers.
