This early sixteenth-century mosque was built during the Lodi period and is celebrated as one of the finest of its era in the capital. According to legend, it grew from a single grain of lentil, or moth, planted by the sultan's minister, giving the mosque its curious name. Constructed of grey quartzite with red sandstone and marble accents, its prayer hall carries five arched bays beneath fluted domes, with delicate medallions above the central arch. The refined proportions mark a transitional moment before the Mughal conquest.
