Set beside a large reservoir first dug in the late thirteenth century, this medieval complex grew around a royal water tank that supplied the surrounding settlement. Sultan Firuz Shah Tughlaq later added a madrasa, mosque and his own domed tomb along the water's edge, and their arcaded ruins still line the lake. Today the stone galleries overlook a green expanse popular with birdwatchers, while the adjoining urban village is packed with cafes and galleries. Visitors wander the crumbling arches at sunset.
