The administrative and commercial heart of Roman Thessaloniki, this forum complex was laid out around the 2nd century AD on two terraces near the modern city centre. Excavations have exposed a paved public square framed by colonnaded porticoes, shops, a mint and a small odeon used for performances and council meetings. An underground cryptoporticus once supported the upper level and now houses part of the on-site museum. Interpretive galleries display mosaics.
