One of the oldest surviving churches in Thessaloniki, this 5th-century basilica is a large three-aisled structure with a timber roof, built shortly after Christianity became the empire's dominant faith. Its interior columns bear finely carved capitals, and fragments of early mosaics survive in the arches, showing birds, fruit and geometric motifs against gold grounds. The church is included among the Palaeochristian and Byzantine monuments recognised for their historical importance.
