A graceful late Byzantine church of the early 14th century, Saint Panteleimon stands near the Arch of Galerius in the city centre. Built on a cross-in-square plan with a central dome and a surrounding ambulatory, it exemplifies the refined brickwork and elegant proportions of the Palaeologan period. Traces of fresco survive inside, and the exterior displays decorative brick patterns typical of the era. Converted to a mosque under Ottoman rule and later restored.
