Wat Pho is one of Bangkok's oldest and largest temple complexes, best known for housing a 46-metre-long gilded Reclining Buddha that fills nearly the entire length of its viharn. The temple is also regarded as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage and maintains a school of the practice on its grounds. Dozens of chedis of varying sizes crowd the compound, several containing the ashes of former Chakri kings. The complex sits immediately south of the Grand Palace on Rattanakosin Island.
