Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, rises from the western bank of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. Its central prang is encrusted with fragments of Chinese porcelain that catch the morning and evening light with unusual brilliance. The structure dates to the Ayutthaya period and was significantly enlarged during the reign of Rama II. Dawn and dusk offer the most photographed views from the opposite riverbank.
