Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, occupies the inner precinct of the Grand Palace complex in Bangkok and serves as the royal chapel of Thailand. The Emerald Buddha, carved from a single block of jade-green nephrite, is dressed in gold seasonal robes changed by the king three times a year. The surrounding galleries are lined with elaborate murals depicting the Ramakien epic. The compound is among the most visited and photographed sites in the country.
