Commissioned by King Chulalongkorn in the 1860s, this temple blends Thai form with European interior decoration, reflecting the modernising outlook of its era. A circular cloister encloses a central gilded chedi, and the ordination hall inside surprises visitors with vaulted ceilings and Gothic-influenced detailing that recalls a Western chapel. Doors and windows are inlaid with mother-of-pearl, and the adjoining royal cemetery holds ornate monuments in a mix of architectural styles.
