Saranrom Park lies in the historic heart of Bangkok near the Grand Palace, on grounds that once belonged to an adjacent royal residence. Opened to the public in the twentieth century, it preserves a nineteenth-century garden layout with ornamental pavilions, a marble memorial, fountains and old shade trees. Its quiet, formal atmosphere and Victorian-influenced structures set it apart from the city's larger parks. Birdsong and morning exercisers fill the walkways near the royal district on a tour of old Bangkok.
