A large oval royal field in the historic center of Bangkok, this open ground lies between the Grand Palace and the national museum and has hosted royal ceremonies for over two centuries. Traditionally the site of royal cremations and plowing ceremonies, it is framed by tamarind trees and offers views of the palace walls and temple spires. Kite-flying was long a popular pastime here in the windy months. Reserved for major national occasions, the field remains one of the most symbolically important open areas in the capital.
