Neanderthals made their homes in the sea caves of Gibraltar for more than 100,000 years, and the four caverns cut into the Rock's eastern cliffs preserve an unmatched record of their lives. Finds show them hunting seabirds and marine creatures, adorning themselves with feathers and even scratching abstract engravings into the rock — evidence reshaping the debate on how 'human' they were. UNESCO inscribed Gorham's Cave Complex in 2016.
