Kalkaji Mandir is a revered Hindu shrine in southern Delhi honouring the goddess Kali, whom devotees regard as a self-manifested deity of the site. The present pyramidal structure dates largely from the eighteenth century, though local tradition traces worship here much earlier. Its twelve-sided sanctum is ringed by a verandah of ornate arches, and the temple sits close to the Lotus Temple and a busy metro interchange. Pilgrims arrive in vast numbers during Navratri, crowding the approach lanes lined with stalls of flowers and sweets.
