This striking First World War memorial at Hyde Park Corner honours the members of the Royal Regiment of Artillery who died in the conflict. Unveiled in 1925 and designed by Charles Sargeant Jagger with architect Lionel Pearson, it is dominated by a huge stone sculpture of a howitzer on a Portland stone plinth. Around the base, unflinchingly realistic bronze figures depict artillerymen, including a fallen soldier draped in a greatcoat. It is admired for its sombre honesty.
