This eight-sided plaza forms the civic heart of Dunedin, ringed by heritage buildings including the town hall, St Paul's Cathedral, the public art gallery and cafes. A statue of the Scottish poet Robert Burns sits at its centre, reflecting the city's strong Scottish heritage. The tree-lined square hosts markets, festivals and public gatherings and serves as a meeting point at the top of the main street. Its distinctive shape gives the central city its recognisable layout.
