This social-history museum in Dunedin traces the story of the region's peoples, from Maori settlement through the Scottish-led colonisation and the gold rush that made the city briefly the country's largest. Exhibits include a hall of settler portraits, transport collections with vintage vehicles and locomotives, and displays on immigration and everyday life. Part of the museum occupies a striking former art-deco bus station. It is one of the oldest history museums in New Zealand.
