St. James Cathedral is the Anglican cathedral of Toronto, a Gothic Revival church whose spire was for a time the tallest structure in the city when completed in the 1870s. Its soaring nave, stained glass and one of North America's most complete peals of change-ringing bells draw both worshippers and visitors. The surrounding cathedral grounds and adjacent park mark one of the oldest congregations in the city, dating to the early nineteenth century. The building's slender steeple remains a familiar landmark in the older financial district.
