Old City Hall is a Romanesque Revival landmark in downtown Toronto, completed in 1899 to designs by architect E. J. Lennox and once among the largest civic buildings in North America. Its rusticated sandstone walls, grand clock tower and carved gargoyles dominate the corner of Queen and Bay Streets. After the city government moved to a modern building in the 1960s, it served for decades as a courthouse. The building's ornate stonework and soaring bell tower make it one of the finest examples of Victorian civic architecture in Canada.
