A domed, blue-tiled museum in central Tashkent dedicated to the fourteenth-century conqueror Amir Timur and the Timurid dynasty. Opened in 1996, its circular hall is lined with paintings, manuscripts, coins, arms and reproductions of monuments illustrating the empire that made Samarkand a great cultural centre. The building's ornate exterior and gilded interior dome echo the Timurid architecture of the era it commemorates. It sits beside a leafy square, forming a focal point of the modern capital's civic core.
