The oldest and largest history museum in Uzbekistan traces the country's past from prehistoric times through the Silk Road era to the present across extensive galleries. Its most celebrated holdings include ancient Buddhist statuary from the southern regions, among them fragments of a colossal reclining figure, together with archaeological finds, coins, ceramics and ethnographic collections. Exhibits chart the rise and fall of the great Central Asian states and empires.
