One of the largest surviving madrasas in Tashkent, built in the sixteenth century by a court official near the old Chorsu market district. Its imposing brick facade and central portal open onto a courtyard ringed by student cells, and the building has served in turn as a religious school, a caravanserai and even a fortress over its long history. Restored in modern times, it again functions as a teaching institution. Its raised position gives views over the surrounding old-town quarter.
