The Affandi Museum in Yogyakarta was created by Affandi, one of Indonesia's most celebrated painters, to display his own work and that of his family. The complex beside the Gajah Wong river was designed by the artist himself, with curving roofs shaped like banana leaves and galleries built around his studio and former home. Inside hang hundreds of his vivid, expressive canvases, many painted by squeezing pigment straight from the tube, alongside personal effects and his car.
