The best-known shopping avenue of the capital, running north–south a short distance east of the former palace. Long a center of commerce, its pedestrianized main stretch is lined with department stores, malls, bookshops, and long-established specialty stores. A famous snack lane branching off it once drew crowds for its skewered treats. Nearby stand a large church and museums, tying shopping to sightseeing. Historic firms selling tea, silk, and traditional medicine trade alongside modern brands between the main monuments.
