The largest wooden hall inside the former palace and the ceremonial heart of the complex, it sat atop a triple-tiered marble terrace reached by carved ramps. Enthronements, imperial birthdays, and the announcement of examination results took place here amid bronze cranes and incense burners. Its double-eaved roof, once reserved for the highest rank of building, shelters a golden lacquered throne. Ranked stone markers in the courtyard showed where officials stood by grade during audiences.
