A complex of imperial halls and ancient cypress groves flanking the palace to the east, formerly the ancestral temple where emperors made offerings to their forebears. The stately main hall, raised on a marble terrace and roofed in imperial yellow, rivals the grandest palace buildings in scale and craftsmanship. Repurposed in the twentieth century as a cultural venue for workers, the grounds now host exhibitions and performances amid the solemn old architecture, giving the site an unusual layered identity.
