The Chang'an Grand Theatre is one of Beijing's principal stages for Peking opera, carrying on a name that dates back to a celebrated pre-war playhouse. Reopened in its current form in the 1990s along the Chang'an Avenue axis, it presents traditional opera with elaborate costumes, painted faces, acrobatics and stylised singing. Visitors can watch performances that showcase this centuries-old art, sometimes with tea served in the auditorium in the older manner.
