One of the three original gates through the Venetian walls that ring old Nicosia, built in the 16th century as the main eastern entrance toward Famagusta. A long vaulted passage runs through the thickness of the rampart to a domed inner chamber. Restored in the modern era, the gate now serves as a cultural centre and exhibition space for concerts and events. Its massive stonework illustrates the scale of the star-shaped fortifications raised to defend the city.
