This copper-sheathed triumphal arch in the south-west of Saint Petersburg commemorates the Russian troops who fought Napoleon, particularly the guards regiments returning from the campaigns. First raised in wood for their homecoming and later rebuilt in more durable materials in the early nineteenth century, it is crowned by a six-horse chariot of victory and lined with statues of warriors and allegorical figures. A small museum occupies the interior of the green-and-gold monument.
