This cast-iron triumphal gate on Moskovsky Prospekt was erected in the mid-nineteenth century to honour Russian victories over the Ottomans and in Poland, and it ranks among the largest structures ever assembled from cast iron. A row of tall fluted Doric columns supports an entablature decorated with allegorical figures of victory and military trophies. Dismantled in the Soviet period and later reconstructed, its dark metal mass now presides over a broad southern avenue.
