Opened in 2010 on Vasilyevsky Island, this is the largest private museum of contemporary art in Russia, occupying a converted Neoclassical building whose facade is flanked by monumental modern statues. Its permanent collection numbers thousands of works by Russian artists from the mid-twentieth century onward, spanning painting, sculpture and immersive installations. Positioned away from the historic centre, it has helped make Vasilyevsky Island a destination for new art.
