This early 14th-century church was the katholikon of a monastery founded during the Palaeologan revival of Byzantine art. Its exterior is celebrated for elaborate polychrome brickwork arranged in intricate geometric and floral patterns around the five domes. Inside, some of the finest surviving mosaics and frescoes of the period depict scenes from the life of Christ, executed in a delicate, humanist style. Surrounded by remnants of the monastery's cistern and enclosure.
