The Patriarchal Cathedral crowns Dealul Mitropoliei, a low hill above central Bucharest, and serves as the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Church. Built in the mid-17th century under prince Constantin Șerban, its brick church follows a triconch plan with painted interiors and revered relics of Saint Demetrius. The adjacent Patriarchal Palace and a slender bell tower complete the ensemble, which for decades sat beside the country's parliament. From the terrace visitors gain a broad view over the rooftops of the old city.
