Copenhagen City Hall dominates one of the capital's main squares with a tall brick facade and clock tower completed in the early twentieth century in a national romantic style. Above the entrance a gilded figure of the city's legendary founder looks out over the plaza. Inside, a vast covered hall, decorated staircases and an elaborate astronomical clock reward those who venture beyond the doors. The building remains the seat of the municipal council, and tower tours offer wide views across the rooftops of the old centre.
