The twin brick towers of Oslo City Hall rise above the inner harbour and have served as the seat of the municipal government since 1950, after a construction process interrupted by war. Every December the building hosts the ceremony where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded, drawing international attention to its main hall. Inside, sweeping murals by leading Norwegian artists depict national history, labour and daily life. The astronomical clock, courtyard friezes and waterfront setting make the exterior as notable as the decorated interior.
