A medieval castle and fortress on a rocky promontory overlooking the Oslofjord in central Oslo, originally built around 1300 by King Haakon V to defend the city against Swedish attack. The complex was expanded and modernised during the Renaissance period and served various military functions through the 20th century. Today it houses two museums and is open to the public, offering views across the inner Oslofjord and the city's harbour.
