The Kreuzkirche is the largest church in Dresden and the principal Protestant church of Saxony, standing on the city's old market square. A church has occupied the site since the medieval period, and the present Baroque and neoclassical building dates from the eighteenth century, its tall tower a landmark of the skyline. It is home to the Dresdner Kreuzchor, a boys' choir with a tradition stretching back some eight centuries. After wartime destruction the interior was left deliberately rough as a reminder of the city's suffering.
