The Church of Our Lady in Dresden is a Lutheran Baroque church whose distinctive sandstone dome has defined the city's skyline since 1743. Destroyed in the February 1945 bombing of Dresden and left as a ruin throughout the GDR era as a war memorial, the church was meticulously reconstructed using original stones and reopened in 2005. The exterior platform near the base of the lantern provides a panoramic view across the Elbe and the Baroque ensemble of the inner city.
