Neumarkt is a reconstructed baroque square in the centre of Dresden, rebuilt around the restored Frauenkirche after decades as an open scar following the Second World War. The domed church rises above pale sandstone façades that recreate the dense pre-war streetscape. A bronze statue of Martin Luther stands before it. Cafés and galleries occupy the arcaded ground floors, and the square offers the classic view of the Frauenkirche's bell-shaped cupola, especially striking when floodlit against the darkening evening sky.
