A port town on Haiti's southern coast celebrated for its papier-mâché carnival masks, French colonial ironwork balconies, and a long tradition of painters and craftspeople. Its historic center, damaged by the 2010 earthquake, has seen steady restoration and holds tentative UNESCO status. The turquoise pools of Bassin Bleu lie in the hills a short drive away.
