The Episcopal cathedral of the Holy Trinity, celebrated for the extraordinary murals painted in the 1950s by leading masters of the Haitian art movement, depicting biblical scenes with Haitian figures and landscapes. The vivid frescoes made it a monument of Caribbean art. The 2010 earthquake destroyed most of the building and its paintings, though three murals were rescued and conserved. A reconstructed cathedral and an associated arts school continue the tradition, keeping alive one of the most important cultural legacies of the capital.
