Historic City of Ahmadabad

Sultan Ahmad Shah founded walled Ahmadabad beside the Sabarmati river in the 15th century, and the city went on flourishing as Gujarat's capital for six centuries. The Bhadra citadel, fort walls and gates, and a wealth of sultanate mosques and tombs stand alongside later Hindu and Jain temples, while daily life continues in the pols — densely packed traditional houses on gated streets with bird feeders and public wells. The historic city was inscribed by UNESCO in 2017.
