This 15th-century congregational mosque in the walled old city is among the finest early Islamic monuments in Gujarat. Built of yellow sandstone by the sultan who founded Ahmedabad, its vast courtyard is fronted by a prayer hall of hundreds of carved pillars supporting a forest of domes. The facade blends Islamic forms with Hindu and Jain decorative motifs, reflecting local craftsmanship. Rows of arches and delicate stone screens filter the light inside, and the mosque remains an active place of worship at the heart of the historic core.
