Marking the original citadel around which Ahmedabad grew, this 15th-century fort was built by the city's founding sultan and encloses palaces, a mosque and a clock tower added in colonial times. Restored in recent years, its ramparts and gateways now overlook a large public plaza used for events. A temple to the goddess Bhadra Kali within the walls gives the fort its name. From the terraces visitors survey the old city, and the complex serves as a starting point for heritage walks through the surrounding lanes.
