A Baroque palace on the right bank of the Salzach River in the new town of Salzburg, Mirabell was built in 1606 by Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau and extensively remodelled in the early 18th century. The Marble Hall within the palace is one of the finest secular Baroque interior spaces in Austria and remains in use as a concert venue. The formal Mirabell Gardens outside, with their sculptural fountains and geometric parterres, are particularly photographed from the axis aligned toward Hohensalzburg Fortress.
