In a tall ochre house on the Getreidegasse in Salzburg, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in 1756 and spent his early childhood. The building is now a museum arranged over several floors, displaying the family's rooms, portraits, letters and instruments including a childhood violin and a clavichord. Exhibits set out the world in which the young prodigy grew up and toured Europe with his father. Its position on the busiest lane of the old town, hung with wrought-iron guild signs, makes it one of the most visited sites in the city.
