Greenwich occupies a bend in the Thames downstream of central London and contains one of the densest concentrations of World Heritage-listed buildings in England. The Royal Observatory, from which Greenwich Mean Time is defined, sits on the hilltop above the baroque Old Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum. The view from the Observatory down across the Painted Hall, through the colonnades to the river and Canary Wharf beyond, is one of the defining panoramas of London.
