This theatre on South King Street in Dublin, opened in 1871, is one of the oldest continuously operating playhouses in the city. Its ornate Victorian auditorium, with tiers of horseshoe balconies, has hosted opera, pantomime, musicals and drama for over a century. Long associated with the annual Christmas pantomime and with visiting opera seasons, it remains a popular commercial theatre near the busy Grafton Street shopping area. The richly decorated interior preserves the atmosphere of a nineteenth-century Irish playhouse.
