This building on Dawson Street has been the official residence of the Lord Mayor of Dublin since 1715, making it the oldest such civic residence in Ireland still in use. Built as a private townhouse in the early eighteenth century, it was acquired by the city corporation shortly afterward. Its Round Room hosted the first meeting of the Dáil Éireann in 1919, when the Declaration of Independence was adopted. The stucco-fronted house and its adjoining function rooms remain a venue for civic events and receptions.
