The Faro de Comercio is a bright orange concrete monument in the Macroplaza of Monterrey, designed by the Mexican architect Luis Barragán and completed in 1984. Rising about 70 metres as a thin slab pierced near the top, it projects a green laser beam across the city at night that sweeps over the surrounding square. Though not an observation tower, it is a landmark of the vast civic plaza and a celebrated work of modern Mexican architecture, its bold colour contrasting with the older cathedral nearby.
